Stories

We measure our success in the lives we have impacted.

These stories are a testament to the change that communities can make when we come together for an important cause.

“I would like to say thank you to the Rose Cottage volunteers. The experience for my husband was great. Whether it be walks, chess or talking about whatever, he felt great when his volunteer shared time each week.To anyone struggling with a need for some companionship, please give Rose Cottage a call…you will not be disappointed!”

“Thank you for all you did to provide comfort, joy, companionship, assistance, peace and dignity to my dad in his last journey in life. Thank you for providing a few hours every week for me to have a somewhat normal life. You are always gracious and accommodating.”

“Dear Staff and Volunteers of Rose Cottage, Thank you so much for your compassionate and loving presence with my mother, Evelyn during her passing. My sister, Christine, was deeply touched by your careful and gentle approach. Your organization is a blessing to us and others in our community of Grimsby and area.”

“When I first contacted Rose Cottage to inquire about caregiver supports for my mother, I was overwhelmed with the professionalism. Initially, we met to determine my mother’s needs which they carefully assessed. It was most important for them to find a qualified volunteer match, and they certainly did! Even after my mother’s passing, Rose Cottage kept in touch; offering condolences and continued support. What a wonderful palliative care program, which I highly recommend, and am truly thankful for.”

“I have recently began volunteering with Rose Cottage. I participate in the visiting volunteer program. I visit with two clients in their homes. I almost feel like I benefit just as much from the visits as my clients do. My favourite thing about volunteering is seeing how my clients light up throughout our visit. We have good days and bad days, but it means the world to me to be able to support my clients and their families. Not every visit is easy as it can be difficult to support someone with a palliative or life limiting illness, however each visit is a fulfilling gift. Through the visiting volunteers program, I have built significant and lasting relationships with my clients. I look forward to continue visiting with my clients and to meet more people to see where this journey takes me.”

“The work Rose Cottage does is
remarkable and so very needed.”

“I truly cannot say enough about how positive and meaningful this legacy experience has been. Rose Cottage has given me peace of mind and a lasting gift for my children, and for that, I am deeply grateful.”

“I don’t know who Nancy is but want you to know how much delight I get from receiving her crocheted creations. She comes up with so many different ideas and must have pretty busy fingers if she includes each gift in all the care packs that are delivered. Always enjoy the soup, bread and the extras that come with each delivery.”

“I just want to tell everyone here how wonderful of an organization Rose Cottage is. They are such a small team but have mighty hearts. They always show kindness and compassion to people. I am so grateful to have been exposed to them. I can’t say enough good things about the good work they do.”

“I am so grateful for these wonderful volunteers who are so valuable to caregivers at home with loved ones who are
severely compromised and need someone with them at all times. I know my Dad benefited from someone sitting with him and reading to him while my Mom went to do grocery shopping. Just an amazing program.”

“Thanking the volunteers, Karen, and Marijke for their valued companionship, caring support shown to my mother, thank goodness for volunteers”

“Thank YOU John S. for your weekly visits . They have continued for YEARS – you started at visiting at our home and followed my husband to Albright and promised that you were “there for the long haul.” …You are an amazing and dedicated and devoted person and we were so very fortunate that Rose Cottage paired you with my husband. You are a very dear friend.”

“Without Rose Cottage many years ago, I would not have survived. Your support was
needed and valued. You are guardian angels.”

“These programs are meaningful to the clients and a pleasure to participate in as a volunteer. Rose Cottage also shares my senior’s frugal outlook on the use of resources. They run a lean and mean organization, utilizing both their staff and volunteers’ time and their finances sensibly and thoughtfully.”

“We admire your work in the community and your diligent efforts to provide community hospice support services to anyone with a life limiting or palliative illness. We know that your organization goes above and beyond the call of duty. You represent all that is “good, wholesome, ethical, and moral.”

“Thank you for helping capture my Babcia’s legacy. Such meaningful work you do and we appreciate it so much.”

“A big “THANK YOU” the lovely care package. The soup was delicious as was the bread to go with it. The other treats are wonderful. It is always a pleasure to meet and greet your friendly volunteers and tell
them how I am doing when the doorbell rings. Love your Activity books too, that keeps my brain working! The community information is very helpful. Just want you all to know your kind gestures is appreciated.”
